Why Was The Arabian Horse Rehoming Resource Needed?

The Arabian Horse Rehoming Resource was thought of when a group of Arabian horses were rescued from auction by Donna Ray. I had not talked with Donna in many years, but she remembered I had a love for Arabian horses and she called me to see if I knew a way to get word out quickly about these Arabians going through auction. Donna bought up several trailers full. Another trailer was heading to Houston with 4 other Arabian mares, that Hayley managed to buy (off that transport heading for slaughter), and two other ladies (Raegan and Lori) combined their efforts to take on two more trailer load of Arabians. All this effort in a matter of a few days was done through networking and resourcing (phone calls, e-mails, postings on message boards, etc.), and just when we thought all the Arabians were accounted for, there was one Arabian gelding that had been purchased at the auction, but had been left behind ... the buyer decided he didn't want him after all (found out he was a gelding and not a stallion). I ended up buying this gelding ... certainly not to keep, but to rehome (to Janeene and family) after I was sure he could make it through a few weeks of worming, farrier work, good feeds, etc.

This website and the efforts behind it are a tribute to that beautiful grey gelding, Cadeau du Ciel (meaning 'Gift From Heaven'), pictured above, and the many efforts a small group of people undertook to save these beautiful Arabian horses. Cadeau lived a short, but happy life, once out from under the hardship of being underfed, and hauled to auction (where he and his pasture mates were at great risk of slaughter).

Some people ask us "why just Arabians and half-Arabians; why can't you set this rehoming resource/network up for all breeds of horses?" Well, I've grown up around the Arabian breed ... I know it well, and majority of my contacts, resources, networking, etc., is that of the Arabian horse community. While I'd like to be able to help every breed of horse, I'd like to make this a challenge to those in the other various breeds to mirror this Arabian horse rehoming/networking effort and start the same for the various breeds. Just as several people can't help all the people that need help in our entire world, several people also can't help all the horses that need help all across the U.S. It's just not possible. I've placed many Arabian horses with new owners just through my networking efforts, and it was time to go public with this and start a website to grow this effort.
